According to reports by nearby residents, an 18-year-old male driver
lost control of his vehicle when speeding south bound on 2nd Street in
Rio Linda. The vehicle clipped off a SMUD utility pole leaving it
waving in the air and causing power outage to some residents for
approximately 7 hours.
The driver abandoned the vehicle with the engine still running.
Residents who heard the crash searched for the driver but he had left
the scene. Authorities traced him to his residence through registration
papers in the vehicle. At last report, the accident is under
investigation and reports of intoxication are pending.
