Jay, Your report in the RL News again came across as a disgruntled
ex-board
member whose perspective is not about water district issues, itbs
about your
issues. Itbs clear that youB have a motive behind your remarks, but I
want
to
fill in some of the blanks you omitted concerning board compensation.
Director Cater made the motion to reinstate board compensation to be
paid
retroactive back to January 2004. Director Blanchard stipulated half
retro
with
no more than one meeting or $100 per month.
Resolution to Reinstate Board compensation votes, YES Cater, Wickham and
Blanchard. NO, Griffin.
Resolution to pay Retro board compensation payment back to January 2004.
Votes, YES Griffin, Cater, Wickham and Blanchard.
You state "Last year, the Board took action on September 18th,
unanimously
agreeing to suspend their $100 per meeting Board stipends. That was
followed
by
a formal resolution on November 17, 2003. In November, however, Director
Blanchard and Harris reversed their positions, voting to continue
payments to
themselves." What you failed to mention is that Director Harris said
she had
no
problem giving up her board pay as long as Director Wickham gave up his
(approximately)$600 a month health coverage paid for by the ratepayers.
As you
know,
Director Wickham did not do that.
Secondly, you went on to quote me as admonishing the board, "You got to
gloat
in the Rio Linda newspaper that you went without pay for all these
months..."
and Mel you got the gloat butB you didn't save this district one
dollarb& I
want the readers to know for the most part, I was directing my statement
primarily to Director Griffin who, in my opinion, was using the
suspension of
director
pay as a political ploy to be re-elected. Whatbs more, you failed to
mention
is that the ratepayers spend several thousand dollars sending Director
Griffin
to ACWA meetings to such places as Disneyland and so forth...
Furthermore, you state "In what seemed to be a reversal of attitude, all
board members were polite and respectful to each other during their
August
meeting, and there were very few interruptions during Board
discussions. Again
you
neglected to report that Director Cater got a little hot under the
collar and
admonish Director Griffin for micro managing the CSD issue with trying
to push
the issue down peoples throats.B B Although by omitting those facts, it
gave
you
a chance to throw in that Board member Mary Harris was absent.
Don, Please post this in the next Rio Linda News edition.
Thank you
Doug Nelson
